Toby Jessel

Toby Henry Francis Jessel (born 11 July 1934) is a British Conservative Party politician.

Early life

Jessel was educated at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and Balliol College, Oxford and was an exporter. He served as a councillor in the London Borough of Southwark from 1964.

Political career

Jessel contested Peckham in 1964 and Kingston upon Hull North twice in 1966 in both a by-election and the subsequent general election. He represented Richmond-upon-Thames on the Greater London Council 1967-73. He was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Twickenham at the 1970 general election, the seat having been vacant since the death of Gresham Cooke on 22 February 1970, and held it until he was defeated by Liberal Democrat Vincent Cable at the 1997 general election.
